In our fortnightly blog articles, we've covered digital/smart lock-related topics in 'Common Questions About Digital Locks' and gate-related ones with 'Advantages of Choosing a Mild Steel Gate'. What do we hope to achieve? Well, we hope to simplify your unenviable task of planning for a renovation with our regular blogging. And In this month's editions of Liminal's blog articles, we dive into the topic of doors to give you a better understanding of what to look out for and what you're getting when you're in the market for a new main door for your HDB or condominium apartment.
2 types of 🚪main doors we offer Singapore homeowners
While the idea of having a wide selection of materials to construct your dream door from might sound like a good idea. Most homeowners and retailers choose to go with and offer laminated main doors. As unsexy as laminated anything may sound, the reasons behind this laminate love affair are practical and are oh so Singaporean.
- Laminate Main Doors
- Premium Laminate Main Doors
Wow, that was straightforward. Almost too straightforward, the cynic in you might say. How do the two differ from one another? What do you get with those categorised as Premium? And what makes them suitable? Read on to find out!
Affordable, customisable and durable
Before you smash the back or close button—read this. The first thing that often comes to mind when we think of laminated furniture, especially new homeowners, is cheap, low-quality and flimsy. However, with advances in technology and furniture design, this is now, more often than not, an outdated notion or misconception.
You no longer have to sacrifice aesthetics and quality for a reasonably priced door (thank you, industrialisation). Laminated furniture has a bad rep for looking plasticky, not a style most discerning homeowners gravitate to unless they're going with Toyogo-chic. There's nothing wrong with practical storage solutions, but a house full of blatantly plastic items and furniture that looks plastic isn't what most envision when house hunting or applying for a BTO.
Long-lasting layers that'll withstand Singapore's climate
Laminated main doors are solid, not hollow flimsy door-shaped things laminated to look like fine wood. Liminal's laminated main doors are made in three distinct layers, and they are:
- The door's core comprising pieces of solid finger joint wood
- An intermediate layer of solid plywood
- The protective and decorative laminate
Making Liminal's laminated main doors
The door's core
The assembly of our laminated main doors begins by building a solid core. The use of finger joint wood gives us more surface area when glueing the interlocking joints, resulting in a stronger bond than other joint styles.
The intermediate layer
After setting the core, we glue a layer of plywood on both sides of the door. This intermediate layer supports the already strong core joints like a splint and acts as a barrier against the elements.
The laminate
Finally, with the foundational layers of the door completed, we apply the laminate. Using laminates, we're able to offer you a variety of designs and styles. Whether you fancy a main door that resembles elegant marble or an ultra-sleek-looking monochrome design, there's a design for you. And let's not forget, the laminate serves as the first line of defence against Singapore's unrelenting climate that's no friend of furniture or many things for that matter.
What makes Liminal's Premium Laminate Doors 'premium'?
With our selection of premium main doors priced at approximately $100 more than our main doors, you're probably wondering 'why?' and 'is it worth it?'. That's a fair question and one that we want to be transparent about with you.
Our Premium Laminate Doors are a collaboration with premium laminate manufacturers like Arova and Jennings. Together with these fellow local businesses, we offer you best-in-class laminates to not only protect your main door but create the entrance to your dream home.
Beyond the aesthetics, our premium laminate partners are also recipients of the Singapore Green Label. By producing their laminates with environmentally-conscious practices, they not only make products that are better for our environment but even safer for your home too.
What makes my main door 🔥fire-rated?
You may have heard about or seen the term during your journey as a homeowner or soon-to-be homeowner. If you hadn't already guessed, a fire-rated door refers to making a door more fire-resistant. This service, while optional, has its benefits for obvious reasons and is available for both categories of main doors. And in case you were wondering, Liminal's fire-rated doors are made in these two ways:
- A core filled with fire-retardant powder
- Applying a fire-retardant seal around the perimeter of the finger joint wood core
- When heated, the seal swells up and forms a protective layer around the door's core
Main door or premium main door? To fire-rate or not to fire-rate? And the most critical decision, the design! While the questions and options are seemingly endless, you can 📳call us at 9322 7616📳 to consult our friendly team.
